Building regional grain systems means creating markets for farmers in multiple outlets: seed, feed, flour and beverages. Learn how organic grain farmer Thor Oechsner has built a diversified grain farm, and grows for many potential users to suit crop rotations, seasonal demands and overall farm viability. Author Amy Halloran will show what support farmers can draw upon as they seek to take advantage of consumer interest in specialty beans & grains. Local food allies, economic development agencies, and off-farm partners are helping develop diverse grain systems. Learn what’s worked at Oechsner Farms and elsewhere to get ideas about how different models of regional grain economies are answering the demand for local staple crops.
