This workshop will explore agrotourism models on three farms:
Casa Caponetti in Tuscani, Italy, S
ylvester Manor on Shelter Island, New York, and
Duckback Farm in Belfast, Maine. At Casa Caponetti, Lorenzo Caponetti combines farming with hospitality, direct sales and the management of archaeological ruins within a natural conservancy. Adding a restaurant and Bed and Breakfast to his farm increased the work load, but paid off by diversifying the farm, producing income and an outlet for farm product. Edith Gawler and Bennett Konesni will then share their extensive experience with barn dances, house concerts, and farm-based music festivals in New York and Maine, exploring what has worked and what hasn't, how to budget, how to plan and how to get people in the door.
