Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project (ANV) is a quarter-acre community-based farm located in Oakland, California, the third most dangerous city in the United States. Carried out through a year-round camp format, grades K-8 plan, plant, harvest and sell farm produce, and100% of the proceeds are placed into individual savings accounts for participating campers. Founder Kelly Carlisle will speak to the successes and challenges of running a non-profit-urban farming organization that seeks to serve a heavily economically disadvantaged area and food desert. She will describe the intricacies and multiple layers of how food and farming education can address issues of food access, economic empowerment, green and safe spaces, and overall healthy living. Learn about the particular importance of community involvement in her work and her ultimate goal to heal communities.
