Petersburg, NY | soulfirefarm.com

Soul Fire Farm is a family farm committed to dismantling oppressive structures that misguide our food system and lead to disparities in low-income communities and communities of color. The farm began in 2011 to further regional food sovereignty through education and organizing on sustainable agriculture, spiritual activism, land-based healing, leadership and justice for those marginalized by our current food system. Now in its fifth year, Jonah Vitale-Wolff and Leah Penniman have transformed the farm into an educational nonprofit organization with five basic program areas: adult educational programming and farmer trainings, youth food justice training, community programming, international farmer solidarity work, exchanging knowledge and skills with small-scale and indigenous farmers in Haiti and Mexico, and sustainable farm operations, with weekly food distribution for 80 families in marginalized communities using a CSA model.

Stone Barns Center has invited experienced farmers from ten farms to lead in-depth roundtable discussions with small groups of beginning farmers on day one of the conference. Conversations will revolve around the histories and lessons learned from farmers who have successfully achieved, or are on track to achieve, their goals of economic viability and ecological resilience. Questions and free-flowing dialogue among table groups are highly encouraged.
